Winners of the Greek leg of the Global Startup Weekend COVID-19 hackathon were announced on Sunday 26 April 2020 after a weekend of solid work by around 200 individuals who joined forces to produce solutions.
This latest edition of Startup Weekend was held completely virtually with distributed individuals using an online platform to pitch ideas and collaborate as teams to deliver their projects. The event was supported by its platinum sponsors Chivas Venture and The Cube and was part of the overall Startup Weekend global hack involving over 12000 persons in 70 countries.
In starting the event, 18 ideas were presented on Friday night and by Saturday morning, the event coaches pre-selected 10 ideas to pitch on the Sunday evening. Expert lightning talks were delivered throughout Saturday while teams worked feverishly to design and develop their respective ideas. During most of the weekend, specialist coaches were on hand to mentor the teams on the finer points of their individual ideas. Unlike a regular hackathon where participants come together to collaborate physically, these challenging times require us to exercise social distancing so the hackathon was held through social chat platform Discord.
Sunday evening’s presentations were judged by a panel of experts from industry, government and academia.

IOT – Wearable bracelet device helping people to avoid touching face
3rd Place – deCrowd
Mobile App – Minimizing waiting time in Queues protecting vulnerable groups
